Halloween is still not widely celebrated in Korea. First, it’s pretty impossible for children to trick-or-treat since most living spaces are apartments and pensions. I have yet to see individual houses outside of very rural areas. Many children still seem to dress up, but I’ve found that people tend to celebrate at amusement parks which have been decorated for Halloween or to attend haunted houses. (And those who are of drinking age tend to dress up and go to bars, lounges, and clubs to celebrate. Per the norm in the States as well.) For our activity day at school we played many games together, and had a haunted room, where I was to scare the kids while my coteacher guided them through the room. But the room even freaked me out!! So I had to ask for another teacher to come with me so I wouldn’t be in the room alone hahaha….so you can only imagine how some kids could feel, but mostly the kids loved this day.
